Dr Pete Jones is work psychologist specialising in psychometric test development and issues around workplace diversity. He has undertaken groundbreaking work in the use of Implicit Attitude Theory (IAT) and its application in culturally challenging environments.
IAT has had a great deal of success in identifying and profiling personal prejudices. In this sense, IAT goes a long way beyond traditional profiling and can help to predict attitudes and performance in areas where there are high levels of sensitivity. Policing is one such example.
There is, unsurprisingly, much more work to be done in this area. The future of IAT is in trying to enhance the link between attitude, performance and motivation and the predictions made by IAT techniques. Ongoing trials and live cases increase knowledge and strengthen this link.
